Our church kindly did a sermon series based around some of my songs in February, so I dusted off an old one in "Promises." The old recording doesn't sound very much like me anymore, so I tracked an up to date representation for the church website. Hope it blesses your ears and hearts!

I wrote this song years ago after being inspired by the great C.S. Lewis quote below, and just now got around to recording it. Hope you will listen, like, download, and share it if you can... thanks so much!
“In speaking of this desire for our own far off country, which we find in ourselves even now, I feel a certain shyness. I am almost committing an indecency. I am trying to rip open the inconsolable secret in each one of you—the secret which hurts so much that you take your revenge on it by calling it names like Nostalgia and Romanticism and Adolescence; the secret also which pierces with such sweetness that when, in very intimate conversation, the mention of it becomes imminent, we grow awkward and affect to laugh at ourselves; the secret we cannot hide and cannot tell, though we desire to do both. We cannot tell it because it is a desire for something that has never actually appeared in our experience. We cannot hide it because our experience is constantly suggesting it, and we betray ourselves like lovers at the mention of a name. Our commonest expedient is to call it beauty and behave as if that had settled the matter. Wordsworth’s expedient was to identify it with certain moments in his own past. But all this is a cheat. If Wordsworth had gone back to those moments in the past, he would not have found the thing itself, but only the reminder of it; what he remembered would turn out to be itself a remembering. The books or the music in which we thought the beauty was located will betray us if we trust to them; it was not in them, it only came through them, and what came through them was longing. These things—the beauty, the memory of our own past—are good images of what we really desire; but if they are mistaken for the thing itself they turn into dumb idols, breaking the hearts of their worshipers. For they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited.”
― C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory

2/16/14 New Original Song "Behind the Curtain"
It was rewardingly taxing arranging and playing all the tracks on this new song, and I thoroughly enjoyed making my studio debut on electric guitar. I hope you enjoy this soulful, bluesy song... it sounds a little different than previous work. Please keep checking in... more new music on the way. Thanks for stopping by!
12/22/13 New Original Song "Surprised"
I sat down with my guitar and twenty minutes later I had this song completely written... they rarely come out that fast for me. I thought I'd layer a few more instrumental tracks on this, but after enjoying the first few passes playing guitar, cajon, and bass, I kinda liked the one take, live acoustic trio vibe... hope you do too

I'm even more excited than normal to share it because it was my first time playing the cajon... thank you Matt McCain for making such a beautiful instrument! Thank you all for stopping by and please stay tuned... more new music is on the way
8/31/13 New Song, "516 West Addison Street"
Hello, friends! Just below you can stream an initial mix of a new song, "516 West Addison Street." The song uses my experience in a former dusty, old Chicago apartment to reflect on the difficulty and possibility of being hopeful and thankful in the uncertainty of a not so glamorous present... and how beauty has a funny way of sneaking up on us from unexpected places. Musically I'm excited to share this one because it was my first time playing and tracking bass guitar... and my first time working with drum sounds in my humble home studio. Hope you like it! Thanks for stopping by and please stay tuned for more new music
7/8/13 2 New Songs that will be on an Upcoming EP!

Thanks again for checking in, and I'll keep you posted on more exciting things that are "up ahead" :)
2/25/13 New Music! Listen to Up Ahead EP
Hello, friends! It's been a while since I've released any music, and I've been getting excited about sharing some new song ideas with y'all... so I got out a couple of mics and my laptop and recorded "Up Ahead (acoustic)" and "Enough (live, acoustic)" on Garageband. I also was fortunate enough to get in the studio for an impromptu recording session with the talented, Casey Kannenberg, and we tracked a song we wrote together called "Can't Let Go (acoustic)." You can Listen to mp3s of all three songs below! You can also purchase/download the new acoustic EP on Itunes or at CDBaby.com.
Thanks so much for checking out the new website, and I hope you like the songs! Stay tuned... more new music is on the way
